The Most Common and Rarest Animal Face Types

By WhatZoo Team · Published June 8, 2026

WhatZoo sorts faces into a whole zoo of animal types, spread across five tiers. Some show up all the time; others are the rare result that makes people screenshot and share. Here's a friendly tour from the most familiar faces to the most elusive — and where to read more about each.

A reminder up front: "common" and "rare" here are about how often each type tends to come up in a playful sense, not a scientific census. As always, the whole thing is for fun.

The everyday favorites

If you ask a room full of people what their animal face is, you'll hear a few answers over and over.

  • Cat face — the eternal favorite: cool, defined features and an independent vibe.
  • Dog face — the warm counterpart: soft, friendly, instantly likeable.
  • Rabbit face — gentle and cute, with big, open eyes.
  • Deer face — soft and elegant, calm and a little dreamy.

These are the "common" results, and that's part of the fun — there's a whole community of cat-face and dog-face people out there. (Not sure which side you're on? We compared them in cat face vs dog face.)

The cool middle ground

A step rarer are the sharp, characterful types that people love getting:

  • Fox face — clever and a little mysterious, the classic "chic" result.
  • Wolf face — striking and intense, with a lone-wolf edge.
  • Hamster face — round, cheeky, and endlessly endearing.

These don't appear quite as often as the everyday favorites, which is exactly why people are so pleased to land one.

The apex tier

At the top of the hierarchy sit the bold, commanding faces:

  • Lion face — regal and confident, a natural leader look.
  • Tiger face — powerful and charismatic, impossible to ignore.

Because of how the tier system works, these apex types are less common — getting one feels like a small flex.

The rare wildcards

And then there are the true rarities — the wildcard tier, where the unexpected lives:

  • Dinosaur face — the legendary wildcard, original and unforgettable.
  • Penguin face — quirky, charming, and delightfully unexpected.

Getting a wildcard is the WhatZoo equivalent of pulling a rare card. If you land one, you've earned the screenshot.

This is just a sampler — there are many more animal types waiting in the encyclopedia, each with its own traits, love style, and fun facts. The best way to find out where you fall on the common-to-rare spectrum is to run your own photo and see who you get.

Common or rare, every animal in the zoo has its charm. Which one are you?
